Uttarakhand govt to give 50% subsidy for development of nurseries

Dehradun, Aug 25 (PTI) Setting a target of establishing 500 nurseries for the promotion of horticulture in the state, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat has announced 50 per cent subsidy for those investing in the sector.

Rawat, while presiding a meeting on horticulture promotion here yesterday, asked Principal Secretary (Forest) and Director (Horticulture) to submit a detailed action plan in this regard and make proper arrangements for marketing of saplings developed at the nurseries.

Setting up new nurseries at this scale will not only make available good quality seedlings and saplings but also strengthen the economic conditions of farmers, he said and announced that Rs 7.5 lakh will be given per hectare as subsidy for setting up nurseries, according to an official release.

The CM said use of five per cent lemons and oranges in manufacturing of liquor has been made compulsory to promote their plantation.

A target of planting one lakh saplings of lemons and oranges has been set this year by the state government and a subsidy of 50  per cent is being given for this as well, he said, adding that co-operative banks have also been made a partner with the state government for this.
