Raksha Morcha slams govt: The Uttarakhand Raksha Morcha has slammed the state government for not constituting an Armed Forces Tribunal in the state. PC Thapliyal, spokesman said both the Congress and the BJP had not been able to establish a tribunal in the past 11 years because of which the serving as well as the retired defense personnel had to make rounds of Uttar Pradesh Armed Forces Tribunal. The party would take initiative in setting up the tribunal by taking it up with the Center, he said.
Traders stage dharna: Freehold traders, who were unhappy over the state government’s policy on the Chakrata widening issue sat on a dharna on Chakrata Road on Friday. President of the Chakrata Road Traders Association Virender Rawat said if the state government did not pay heed to their protest, then they would turn their dharna into a hunger strike. He said the members were ready to wage a legal battle on this issue in the Nainital High Court as well.
J&K students visit RIMC: A team of 25 students from Jammu & Kashmir visited Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) on Friday as a part of “Sadbhavna” tour. Major Rajesh Sharma, officer in charge of the trip, said the tours are organised regularly by the Indian Army for rural children in order to give them the required exposure. In a brief interaction with the RIMC cadets, the students said they were very impressed by Dehradun, its vegetation, beauty and surrounding. They were also happy to know about the RIMC, its history and heritage.
Officials hold rally: Officials of the Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan, PTC Mazdoor Union, the Uttarakhand Gram Prahri Union and the Daily Wagers Labour Union held a rally from Clock Tower to the Secretariat here yesterday. President of the PTC Mazdoor Union Vishal Singh said they had been working under various drinking water schemes for last 34 years, which included collecting water charges from people. No permanent employee was involved under this schemes, despite that they had not been considered among the 24,000 daily wagers who had been regularised by the state government.

Body found in bushes: A 12-year-old boy was found murdered in the Chorgaliya area of Nainital district. It is learnt that his neck had been severed with a sharp-edged weapon and his body had been dumped in wild bushes. He had left his house on Wednesday to take his goats for grazing and had not returned. The victim has been identified as Irfan Ali of Kalega Khatta in the Hanspur Rensali range. The police has booked two brothers Ghanshyam and Jogendra on the charges of murder. Jogendra has been nabbed and the weapon of offense has been allegedly recovered from him. The two had allegedly murdered the boy for having resisted their attempts to steal one of his goats.
Chain snatched in Haldwani: The incidents of chain snatching continue unabated in Haldwani. The latest incident pertains to the snatching of a chain belonging to a medical practitioner Dr Ritu Tripathi. Two motorcycle-borne youths snatched her chain on the Nainital road while she was returning home. Although her brothers chased the snatchers, the latter managed to flee taking advantage of a marriage procession. Reports say that over the last three months, there have been no less than 30 snatchings reported in the town. Police investigations are on in the matter.
2.5 kg of charas seized: Some persons have been nabbed and the officials have seized 2.5 kilograms of charas from them. They were nabbed near Jadapani village in the remote Dhari area of Nainital district. The accused include two sadhus. They are said to be the residents of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. They were caught when the officials were carrying out a routine check of vehicles passing through a check point. The accused have been identified as 65-year-old Amanchain Puri, 30-year-old Sukhram Puri, 87-year-old Gyani and 38-year-old Ashok Kumar. The charas is said to be worth Rs 2.5 lakh in the market. Investigations are being carried out by the revenue police in the matter.
MC office raided: Chief Development Officer (CDO) and Mukhya Nagar Adhikari (MNA) DS Garbyal was appalled at seeing the state of affairs in the Haldwani Municipal Corporation when he carried out a surprise check in the office on Thursday afternoon. Not only did he find a large number of personnel not present at their seats, but also discovered that the attendance register had not been signed by a large number of officials. He got a further shock when the staff told him that the attendance was marked only in the evening. Pulling up the officials, he ordered that the functioning should be streamlined at the earliest and asked them to ensure that the public did not suffer at all for the works that were to be done by the officials.
Man stung by bees dead: A man was killed in the Shakti farm area of Udham Singh Nagar district after he was stung by a swarm of honey bees. The deceased has been identified as 60-year-old Santosh Roy of Panch Quarter Tok of Baikunthpur. It is learnt that he had gone to attend to a field located close to his house when a swarm of bees attacked him. His neighbour Prabhat was also stung by the bees when he came to help Santosh. Just when the villagers were trying to scare away the bees by lighting a fire and generating smoke, Santosh succumbed to the his injuries.
