Uttarakhand government would reward Unmukt Chand with a cash award of Rs 11 lakh for successfully leading the Under-19 Indian Cricket team to win the World Cup recently.
Stating that Chand
has made Uttarakhand proud by his outstanding performance, state sports
minister Dinesh Agrawal said as per the announcement of Chief Minister
Vijay Bahuguna, the government would shortly organise a function here to
felicitate Chand and give him the award money.
Chand is a native of Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand and his father had moved out of the state three decades ago.
Speaking at a function on the National sports day, Agrawal said the
government is committed to give good facilities to its sportspersons
despite having limited resources. In this regard, he said an
international stadium is being built in Dehra Dun with the cooperation
from ONGC.
Besides, he said the Parade Ground is also being prepared for sports activities.
The minister also honoured several sportspersons for their performance in various state-level and national-level events. (PTI)
