With an aim to take the government straight at the block level, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Maj Gen (Retd) B C Khanduri has directed all the district magistrates to ensure that public grievances and problems of the people are solved at the block and district level itself.

Delineating a time frame of one week for the district magistrates, the chief minister, during a review meeting here last night, said all such problems that can be redressed at the district level should be solved on an immediate basis. A district-wise record of all problems and grievances coming from the districts to the office of the Chief Minister will be maintained and the district magistrates would be required to submit their replies on the action that has been taken by them on the same.

Khanduri said that he intends to take the government to the block level, and the district magistrates will have make every possible effort to ensure that people’s problems are resolved at the block level, or at the district level at the most. He said that if the problem is that of the state level, then the district magistrate should advocate for the same, but people should not be made to unnecessarily “take rounds” of Dehradun. Khanduri said that he would once again next week, conduct a district-wise review for disposal of public grievances.

Conducting a review of the situation of road routes in the state, the chief minister said that the priority should be to open the blocked roads due to landslides. He said that works on repair of roads and improving their quality should be commenced after the rains. He directed the principal secretary PWD to submit a report on the latest condition of the roads and highways to the chief minister’s office every day.

Khanduri also conducted a review of the social schemes and directed the Chief Secretary to carry out a separate

review. Giving strong directions to officials to ensure a transparent and corruption-free system of working, Khanduri said that they must bring about positive improvements in their daily tasks.

He told the district magistrates that all employees especially teachers should come to office on time.

Expressing his concern at the road accidents, the Chief Minister directed the transport department and the District Magistrates to take strong and strict measures.

The Chief Minister also conducted a review of electricity, drinking water, food grains supplies and disaster management in the districts.
