Uttarakhand govt finalises quarrying policy

Dehra Dun, Nov 4 (PTI) The Uttarakhand government has finalised the quarrying policy in order to check the illegal quarrying, increase state revenue and provide construction material at fair prices. Aprising all the District Magistrates regarding finalising the policy during a meeting, Principal Secretary, Industry and Quarrying, Rakesh Sharma asked them to identify the quarrying areas in their respective districts, an official release today said. Sharma, however, said while Forest Development Corporation would do quarrying in reserve forest area, Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam and Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam would work in revenue areas. He said quarrying officers have already been deployed in each of the 13 districts and the DMs are expected to send lease proposals on the basis of the quarrying area available in their districts. The government has also decided to provide additional funds to districts for carrying out works related to quarrying. District Magistrate of Dehra Dun Dilip Jawalkar said that nearly 900 hectares of area has been idenfied for quarrying in the district.
