Badrinath, Kedarnath and Mussoorie witness snowfall

 Areas in higher altitudes like Badrinath and Kedarnath received snowfall, while even areas at comparatively lower altitude like Mussoorie, Dhanaulti and Surkanda experienced moderate snowfall accompanied by rains on Tuesday, said Uttarakhand Meteorological Centre Director Dr Anand Sharma.

The western disturbance in Jammu and Kashmir along with circulation over Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh caused rain fall at different places in Dehradun, Tehri and Nainital districts. The met office has issued a high alert considering the possibility of snowfall in the mountains. He advised the farmers avoid irrigating their fields in the coming four days. It rained in Dehradun for three hours from 2 pm to 5 pm which heightened the cold making the people preferring indoors. Dehradun received 7 mm rainfall, Muketshwar- 1mm and Tehri 3 mm on Tuesday evening.

Sharma further said that heavy snowfall in the higher reaches and rainfall in the plains of Uttarakhand will occur between December 13 and 14. “In general, the forecast for the next 24 hours is rain/thunder showers at most places in Uttarakhand. Higher reaches in above 2000 feet altitude including Mandal, Tapovan, Malari, Joshimath, Badrinath, Kedarnath,Tungnath, Rudranath, Sukhidhar, Harshil, Gangotri, Chakrata, Kailash Mansarovar route and Auli are expected to receive snowfall in coming days.
